CUSTOM CULTURE EPISODE 2

When you hate your voice and tend to ramble, watching yourself in an interview is the last thing you want to do. This is NOT the case with the latest episode that Vans put together for their Custom Culture. I couldn’t be prouder to be a part of this whole thing. Enjoy!

MUSINK 2011

For the second year in a row my great friends at VANS were incredible enough to invite me to hang out with them at the MUSINK Festival in beautiful Orange County California, earlier this month. I went on a three day marathon of custom shoe making, took some breaks to see some awesome bands, had an ETID fan freak out when he recognized me at a urinal, but most importantly, I helped bring attention to an incredible contest that VANS is running, in which the high school that makes the coolest pair of custom shoes gets $50,000! Find all that info RIGHT HERE, spread that word, and get off the wall!

INLE

Last week Greg CRAOLA Simkins unleashed his “INLE” group exhibit at Gallery1988 on Melrose: roughly 100 artists interpreting the Anti-Hero of Richard Adam’s classic novel “Watership Down”. This was “The Expendables” of art shows, and my inclusion made me feel like a guy lucky enough to run around in the background with a flamethrower. ALL my favorites. And if photoshop didn’t make me want to jump off a bridge, I would take that movie poster and toss the heads of Greg, Alex Pardee, Jeremy Fish, Skinner and Dave Correia on the bodies of the cast. Listen to me when I say this was the best group exhibit I’ve not only been a part of, but the best show I have ever attended, and if you have the opportunity to see it with your own eyes you absolutely need to. The line has PROBABLY died down by now. I’m stoked on my final entree, so buy it HERE before I do!

NEW JUNK AESTHETIC GICLEE PRINTS FOR SALE! wait, what? they’re sold out? NEVERMIND!

It was an intention of mine for over a year now to make giclee prints of my drawings for EVERY TIME I DIE’s “NEW JUNK AESTHETIC”, but it just so happened that on the very day that these extremely limited prints went on sale, I was out of town with limited internet access. But thanks to the power of TWITTER and some rabid fans, nearly all 50 prints sold out in less than 1 day! I can’t thank you all enough for showing such overwhelming interest and support! I guess the question now, is do I make a second pressing of these, make a first pressing of the other drawings, or both!?

TRIBUTE TO JOHN HUGHES – HUG IT OUT!

Doing research for my contribution to Gallery 1988′s upcoming tribute to John Hughes sure was stressful. I had to watch “Planes, Trains and Automobiles”, “Uncle Buck” and “Ferris Bueller”. But it wasn’t until I rewatched “The Great Outdoors” for the 30th time that inspiration struck in the form of a purple grizzly bear rump. In my version, though, all is forgiven. Come check it out in person this Friday, February 11th with me at the new Gallery 1988 in Venice, along with 50 other pieces also created to honor this generation defining filmaker!

ALASKA

Sometimes being in Every Time I Die means you get to do cool stuff. Just kidding, ALL we do is cool stuff. Like that one time last month when we went to Alaska for the second time. As I recall, we attended boxing matches and zoos and did donuts and ate crab legs and I think a reindeer tried to kill Keith, and (once the venue kicked out all the male strippers and bachelorettes) we even played some shows (true story)! Good thing Jay Bennett from DECIBEL MAGAZINE was there with a camera!

SHIT HAPPENS… THE TOUR… THE RECRAP

Here are some pictures from Every Time I Die’s “Shit Happens… The Tour” which ran through November and December of last year. After a summer in front of barricades and sunshine, it always feels nice to hand pick 5 weeks worth of tiny venues, wherein our music is known to cause such animalistic behavior that 15 songs worth of stage dives can and will raise the room temp to roughly 200 degrees. Add this to the snow storm waiting outside for you and your dripping wet clothes, and you’re waking up with a fever to remind you of how incredible last night’s ETID show was! And for that, you are very welcome. As always, the very limited tour posters I made with HERO DESIGN sold out, and as always, we made just a couple more that you can buy RIGHT HERE if you got left out in the cold! (see what I did there?)

MONEY RAISED, MORE ORIGINALS

Thanks to everyone that bid on my charity auction! Quite a huge chunk of change was raised for Toys For Tots and I really appreciate all the people and website that spread the word around. If you follow me on TWITTER and/or FACEBOOK than I’m sure you are sick of my Nerf jokes by now, but I was spamming for charity, so cut me some slack! I like to think the auction made quite a few people happy, and now I’m here to make even more people happy. Specifically, the people that lost the auction! It was a tough decision, and I’ll be sorry to see them go, but I’ve decided to SELL EVEN MORE ORIGINALS. an entire section of them have been added RIGHT HERE to JBWW, so stop cramming useless junk into your buddies’ stocking, and give them some unique ass original art this year!
